Syahril AbdullahSyahril Abdullah
Head of Research Centre

Syahril Abdullah is an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Medicine & Health Sciences, Universiti Putra Malaysia. He leads the Genetics and Regenerative Medicine Research Centre (GRMRC) and also serves as the head of the Clinical Genetics Unit at the Faculty. He is currently one of the ExCo members of the Young Scientists Network – Academy of Sciences Malaysia. His primary research interest is in the field of gene therapy, focusing on ways to extend the duration of therapeutic gene expression and developing safer vector constructs.  He has authored and co-authored numerous papers in high impact-factor journals in the area of gene delivery and DNA vaccine.

He obtained his Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Microbiology, with minor in Psychology from Indiana University, Bloomington, USA. He received Master of Science (MSc) degree in Molecular Microbiology from Universiti Putra Malaysia and holds a DPhil from University of Oxford (Keble College) for his research at the Gene Medicine Research Group, John-Radcliffe Hospital Oxford, UK.

Dr Ling King Hwa

Michael KH Ling
Head of Medical Genetics Research Group

Michael KH Ling is a developmental neurogeneticist and a senior lecturer in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Universiti Putra Malaysia. Michael has an interest in the field of neurogenetics, genomics and bioinformatics. With a BSc (Hons) in Biomedical Sciences and an MSc in Genetics (with distinction) from Universiti Putra Malaysia, he went on to pursue his doctorate degree at Prof. Hamish Scott’s laboratory, University of Adelaide, Australia. He won a Dean’s Commendation for An Outstanding Thesis Award for his doctoral thesis entitled, “Identification of transcripts involved in differentiation, proliferation and developmental networks of the mouse cerebral cortex”. He has published various articles in peer-reviewed journals of high impact factor such as Genome ResearchGenome Biology and Cerebral Cortex. He has won various research/academic awards including the prestigious Lindau Young Scientists and IBRO-SfN international fellowships.

rajeshRajesh Ramasamy
Head of Regenerative Medicine Research Group

Rajesh is an Associate Professor at the department of Pathology, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Universiti Putra Malaysia. Rajesh received his Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical  Sciences (Immunology) and subsequently completed his PhD in Stem Cell Transplantation at Imperial College  of London in 2006. His research is mainly focused on mesenchymal stem cells of which he has produced a substantial number of highly cited research articles.  He is an editorial board member of a number of stem cell  based international journals as well as a panelist for the grant review board of the Medical Biotechnology Cluster in MOSTI(Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation). He has also been appointed as a task force board member of Stem Cell and Aging group at the Academy Sciences of Malaysia.
